Alina collection for Turquoise Mountain launch event
Sima Vaziry launches new Alina collection at Oxo Tower event
May 2018
Celebrating the diversity of Afghan tribes, the award-winning jewellery designer Sima Vaziry last week launched a new jewellery collection, Alina, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Turquoise Mountain.
Hosted at the Oxo Tower, where Sima’s shop is located, guests including His Excellency Said T. Jawad, the Ambassador of Afghanistan to the United Kingdom, were invited to view the collection and meet the designer as well as representatives of the charity.
Speaking at the event, Sima said: “When creating the Alina collection, I was inspired by the story-telling nature of the distinct traditional embroideries which is practiced in all of Afghanistan’s tribes and the female voice within which seeks to communicate visual stories to their close relations, tribe to tribe and maybe even to the wider world. I was delighted to work with Turquoise Mountain and the artisans it supports on this project, seeing the development of skill between prototype and finished piece has been extraordinary and truly rewarding.”
Together with Turquoise Mountain, Sima’s collection seeks to promote traditional Afghan craft by connecting local artisan businesses with designers and retailers across the globe. The beautiful Alina collection has been crafted and finished by jewellery makers based in Kabul, whose skills were further developed through tutorial videos created by Sima.
The highlight of the collection is the Afghan Tribes Peace Brooch which features charms that represent the different tribes.
The full Alina collection is available for purchase at the Sima Vaziry shop at the Oxo Tower:
